Jin Shin Jyutsu | History | Self-Help
What is Jin Shin Jyutsu? Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient holistic healing art. Similar in theory to acupressure or reflexology, Jin Shin Jyutsu is a healing method that uses gentle pressure to free up energy blocks in the body. It thus facilitates our own profound healing capacity in acute and chronic conditions. How does a normal session work? A normal Jin Shin Jyutsu session lasts about an hour. The client lies on a table, fully clothed. The practitioner first "listens" to your pulse by holding both wrists. This indicates which areas of your body are weak and need balancing. The practitioner then "holds" particular pressure points (through your clothes). For example, a practitioner may hold a spot on your shoulder together with one on the opposite knee. These correspond to specific areas in your body. The touch is gentle, steady and never involves force. Generally speaking it is pain free. Any tenderness in a particular area is caused by a blockage and tends to dissipate as the area is held. What type of conditions benefit from Jin Shin Jyutsu? Because Jin Shin facilitates our bodies' own profound healing abilities, any condition will benefit from Jin Shin Jyutsu. However, with all the stresses of modern day life, Jin Shin is particularly suited to replenishing lost energies and providing relief from things like neck and back pain, insomnia, PMS, immune system problems, headaches and depression. Can I do Jin Shin Jyutsu in myself? Absolutely. Jin Shin Jyutsu is about truly knowing yourself and, as such, Jin Shin strongly advocates self help techniques. In fact, it is quite common for your practitioner to send you home from a session with some self help techniques for you to perform at home. For an example of some simple at-home techniques you can do yourself, please see our SELF HELP page. |
